The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Greek Ministry of Development, with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 10/03/2000 it is a founding member of Center for Research & Technology (CERTH).

 

CERTH/ITI is one of the leading Institutions in Greece in the fields of Informatics, Telematics, and Telecommunications, with extensive experience in numerous European and national R&D projects. It is active in a large number of application sectors (energy, buildings and construction, health, manufacturing, robotics, cybersecurity, transport, smart cities, space, agri-food, marine and blue growth, water, etc.) and technology areas such as data and visual analytics, data mining, machine, and deep learning, virtual and augmented reality, image processing, computer and cognitive vision, human-computer interaction, IoT and communication technologies, navigation technologies, cloud and computing technologies, distributed ledger technologies (blockchain), (semantic) interoperability, system integration, mobile and web applications, hardware design and development, smart grid technologies and solutions and social media analysis.

 

In the last 3 years (2018 – 2021), CERTH/ITI has participated in more than 428 research projects and R&D contracts with the Private Sector (Industry). More specifically, it has been involved in 239 EU-funded H2020 research projects (EU funding: 63.15 M€) and in 189 projects (88 National; 7 Interreg and 94 R&D contracts) funded by Greek National Research Programmes and Consulting Subcontracts with the industry (National projects funding: 8.63 M€; R&D contracts: 4.14 M€).

 

For the last 10 years, the publication record of ITI includes more than 330 scientific publications in international journals, more than 780 publications in conferences, and 100 books and book chapters. These works have been cited more than 7.500 times.

 

CERTH/ITI has a staff of approximately 549 people (including 18 Senior Researchers, 360 research assistants, and associates, 73 Postdoctoral Research Fellows, 28 Master’s and Undergraduate Students, and 35 Ph.D. Students, 9 Collaborative Faculty Members, 26 Administrative and Technical Employees).

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece.
The main campus is located in the centre of the city of Thessaloniki and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. It comprises 10 faculties which consist of 40 schools and 1 single-School Faculty.

The School of Rural and Surveying Engineering (R&SE) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1962, counting more than half a century of continuous contribution to the sciences of Rural and Surveying Engineering at national and international level.

The Laboratory of Topography (LabTop) aims at the promotion of Science and Technology in scientific and research areas, such as classical and modern topographical surveys, settings and building controls, the drafting of technical specifications for topographic works, and control and calibration of topographic instruments. Likewise, it implements property titles and the preparation of expert opinions, surveys of technical projects, and architectural constructions while also implementing the documentation of monuments and archaeological sites.
The methodologies developed in the Laboratory, in theoretical, analytical, computational, and research, contribute to the advancement and development of science. Consequently, the results of the applied research of the Laboratory are taught at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, being important resources for the new engineers.
